You’ve been thinking about this for weeks. Maybe longer. And you’re tired of thinking.

Pro-con list. Text to friends. Looked online. Your brain is going in circles. It’s exhausted. And you still don’t know what to do.

Here’s what i’ve figured out: you’re asking the wrong part of yourself.

Your brain can argue anything. i’ve spent hours making a case for something i didn’t actually want. Spreadsheet looked perfect. And the whole time, my body was saying “no.” But i didn’t listen because logic said “yes.”

Your body knows before your brain knows. Your nervous system picks up signals your thinking brain hasn’t caught yet. But most people ignore that feeling because they were told their whole life: “think it through.” “Don’t be emotional.” “Use logic.” So you learned to turn down your body’s voice.

This tool is about listening again. That’s it.

HOW IT WORKS

Step 1: Pause. Two breaths. In for four counts. Out for six counts. This isn’t meditation. it’s just oxygen to your brain so your body stops overriding everything. Most bad decisions happen in the gap between what happens and how you react. The pause creates space. Takes like 10 seconds.

Step 2: Scan. Head to toes. Notice anything. Tightness? Flutter? Pressure? Warmth? Your body is already answering. it’s been answering since you first heard about this decision. You just haven’t been listening. Give it 30 seconds. That’s all.

Step 3: Translate. Turn whatever you feel into one word. “Yes.” “No.” Or “Wait.” First word that comes is usually right. Don’t argue with it. Don’t start explaining why it doesn’t make sense. Just notice what it is.

Step 4: Check. Now let logic have a turn. What do the facts say? Money. Time. People. Your values. Your gut gets a voice. But not a veto. Sometimes your gut is reacting to something you don’t know yet. Sometimes the facts reveal stuff your body missed. Let them talk.

Step 5: Decide. If your body and the facts line up—they’re saying the same thing—you can move. Do it. But if they disagree? Wait 24 hours. Sleep is the best decision thing ever invented. Problems that feel urgent at 11 pm look different at 7 am.

Total time: 90 seconds. Your gut is processing thousands of signals your thinking brain can’t see. it runs on different hardware. Your logical mind gets like 40 pieces of information per second. Your gut gets way more.

WHEN THIS BREAKS DOWN

You’re in a rush so you skip the pause. “There’s no time.” Wrong. if you don’t have time to pause, that’s when you need to pause most. Urgency is usually made up anyway.

You scan your body and feel nothing because you’re too worked up. Move first. Walk around. Shake your hands. Get the nervous system to calm down. Then try again.

You feel something but translate it as “i don’t know.” That just means you need to wait. Don’t force it.

You keep ignoring what your body tells you and then regretting it. Start writing it down. What did your body say? What did you do? What happened? After a while the pattern becomes so clear you can’t ignore it.

FEAR VERSUS “THIS ISN’T MINE”

This is the tricky part. Fear and misalignment can feel almost the same. Both make you tight. Both make you want to say no. But they’re different and confusing them costs you years.

Fear says “this matters.” it shows up when you’re about to do something that actually means something. Submitting your work. Having the hard conversation. Taking the creative risk. Being vulnerable. Fear often comes with the things you most need to do.

Misalignment just says “this isn’t mine.” it’s different. it’s not excitement underneath the fear. it’s just… not yours.

You have to know which one you’re feeling.
